GARDENING…inside, all seasons.

Una Baker | February 19, 2018

Walking the NYNOW home show, I found so much inspiration cruising around and seeing so much creativity and fresh ideas.

Frustrated and always challenged by how to grow small plants and herbs in my NYC apartment, I was so inspired to find Modern Sprout.  Here is their story…..

“Prior to launching Modern Sprout, co-owners and married couple, Sarah and Nick struggled to sustain a kitchen garden in their fourth floor Chicago apartment. Despite both honing their gardening skills as children, as busy adults they struggled to grow anything with their full hands. Container gardening is incredibly challenging, as plants are either water-deprived or overwatered (or both), and overtime the soil compacts, cutting off oxygen to the roots. The busy professionals turned to hydroponics for help and were astounded by the results but unimpressed with the quality of the products available on the market. With that the seed for Modern Sprout was planted.

In April of 2013, Modern Sprout launched its first product – an indoor windowsill 3-Pot Wood Planter with an internal hydroponics system hidden inside – on Kickstarter. Receiving both national and international interest, Modern Sprout raised nearly $80,000 in only 35 days!

Good design is a Modern Sprout principal. The brand’s understated, sophisticated products bring all the elements of hydroponic growing to their customer’s home, and look good doing it. All product lines are designed for style savvy and space-conscious city dwellers, organic-focused home cooks and aspiring indoor gardeners. Their simple, stylish and sustainable planters are self-watering, self-feeding and grow a variety of edibles, flowers and houseplants.”
