Afternoon Tea is a ritual in many cultures that I truly enjoy. I tend to switch up my tea of choice every once in a while. I love the tradition of Argentinian mate, the Bali ginger tea, and the quintessential British high tea were introduced in 1840. Taking time for a little tea midafternoon breaks up your day and helps you unwind. My afternoon tea is usually without food as I just enjoy the time away from my daily routine to relax with a warm cup of tea. Having a daily ritual like afternoon tea creates a practice of slow and mindful living which helps us to take the time to slow down, rest and nourish ourselves.
There are so many herbal teas filled with the most amazing health benefits. My go-to is an herbal tea as caffeine tends to keep me up at night if I consume it after midmorning. The tea of choice today is a combination of Hibiscus & Lemon Verbena. This combination has many health benefits as well as having a tangy & sweet flavor. For centuries, hibiscus has been used to treat everything from high blood pressure to indigestion. Hibiscus plant is rich in antioxidants such as beta-carotene, vitamin C, and more. Studies have also shown hibiscus fight inflammation, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol. Lemon Verbena contains an abundance of compounds that protect your cells from damage. Excellent for athletes as it helps reduce muscle stress and damage. Hibiscus & Lemon Verbena Tea seep 3/4 hibiscus with 1/4 lemon verbena for 8-10 minutes. My new tea source is teahaven.com. I usually grow my lemon verbena, however, still on a search to find the plant.
