Road Trips

Southeast Coast Road Trip to Williamsburg

Una Baker | April 23, 2018

I am loving our long weekend road trips discovering places I have never been.  This past weekend my husband and I drove south to places he has frequented many times but I have not.  Our trip was focused on visiting his Dad’s home in Williamsburg, VA.
Here is a little visual of the memorable experience as well as a link to Roadtrippers which I am going to use as a blog during my future road trips…
Enjoy!

Maryland

CHESTERTOWN

The first leg of our trip was approximately a 3 1/2 drive to Maryland where we stayed at the most beautiful Brampton Bed and Breakfast Inn.  A exquisitely restored 1860 manor house on 20 acres of gardens, meadows and a mile from town.  There are beautiful guests rooms and private cottages with fireplaces, beautiful bathrooms and custom breakfast in the morning.

We dined that evening at The Kitchen at the Imperial.  The place was happening and we decided the bar is where we wanted to be.  This is usually our choice of dining wherever we go especially when you are in a new town.  The bar gives us an opportunity to meet locals, get to know the bartender and be close to each other.  The Kitchen at The Imperial  The food was amazing!  Fried oysters, sweet pea/balsamic reduction risotto and Jumbo Crab Cakes.
The next morning, we woke up to a very chilly morning however had the most lovely breakfast curated to our individual needs and served by darling French woman at the Inn.
As we headed to Williamsburg, a must stop was the Evergrain Bread Company which I had read so much about.  I must say the Baguettes won me over.

Virgina

WILLIAMSBURG

The drive to Williamsburg was so filled with beautiful architecture, cherry blossoms ever so slightly blooming and magnificent views.

In Williamsburg ,we stayed at my in-laws and enjoyed some wonderful trail runs.  The home was minutes from the historic downtown Williamsburg filled with so much history. We were treated with a gorgeous warm day exploring the historic sites of Williamsburg.

Two wonderful restaurants not to be missed are Le Yaca French Restaurant  for dinner and breakfast/brunch Blue Talon Bistro.

New Jersey

CAPE MAY

Our next stop was Cape May, New Jersey.  We drove approximately 4 hours to the ferry which departed from Delaware.  The ferry was about an hour crossing the Delaware Bay.  A little cold to outside, however, I did sneak out to capture the picturesque harbors, seabirds, shoreline and lighthouses.

We arrived in Cape May just in time to check into another wonderful Inn….and OMG our room was breathtaking.  We were welcomed with a lovely bottle of champagne and chocolate strawberries wishing my husband a Happy Birthday!

We celebrated his birthday at Peter Shields Restaurant which was another amazing culinary evening.
