“MY HIGHER PURPOSE” chapter 2
“EVERYMAN IS GUILTY OF ALL THE GOOD HE DID NOT DO”. Voltaire
I am still fine tuning my list of goals for 2019 and my objective is to have one per month. I have decided I will start my journal every morning with this question for my inner voice:
“What do you want me to do today”
This is powerful and some mornings I do not know the answer right away which is OK as this is part of connecting with your inner self.
Guilt is a word that has been resonating so much in my mind lately and it is a word I have worked tremendously on eliminating from my life. My first goal will be to eliminate guilt and endure empathy, compassion and strength in my life.
The reality is we create our own destiny, life and day-to-day decisions. Quoting an article in the NYT 7/24/79:
“Guilt is the oldest theme in literature, a singular drama enacted in the soul of each person. Throughout history literature has expressed the of guilt, teaching us that it is an important motive in human behavior.” Freud says, guilt was the most important problem in the development of civilization, acknowledging psychoanalysis’s debt to literature. Guilt is the most personal of emotions which makes us ultimately judge ourselves.
Working on this goal, I found myself reflecting on this beautiful song by Coldplay.
“Fix you”
“When you try your best but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want but not what you need
When you feel so tired but you can’t sleep”
The lyrics resonate so deeply on how I am feeling. Between meditation, gratitude, and music I am learning how to console my heart and mind. It is so important to take the time to breathe, listen, and remove any notion of guilt.
