A NEW ADDITION TO MY DAILY SMOOTHIES & SALADS
Moringa, my most recent new finds at the Farmers Market from my favorite farmer “Frog Song Organics”. They are always my first stop every Saturday morning for the most rewarding produce, herbs, and fruits. I spotted this plant/herb and thought maybe it was rue…however, I got a little education on Moringa from one of the farmers and discovered its endless health benefits. I immediately purchased a bunch to take home and do a little research on how to use this beautiful plant.
I have used it as a garnish in salads and in smoothies. As the week went by I realized I could not keep it fresh so I slow-dried the leaves in the oven and jarred them for future use.
In short, Moringa has many important vitamins and minerals. The leaves have 7 times more vitamin C than oranges and 15 times more potassium than bananas. It also contains calcium, protein, iron, and amino acids which help our bodies to heal and build muscle. It’s also packed with antioxidants to help boost your immune system. Other studies show that leaf extracts helped chemotherapy work better. As I am focusing on a more vegetarian diet finding herbs like Moringa is very intriguing.
